How to Cancel AutoPay in PhonePe (Step-by-Step, 2026)
Stop or cancel AutoPay in PhonePe in under a minute. Step-by-step guide to find, pause and delete UPI AutoPay mandates, and fix a missing Cancel option.
If money keeps leaving your account for a subscription you no longer use, there is probably a UPI AutoPay mandate behind it. PhonePe lets you see every AutoPay you have approved, pause it or delete it for good. This guide shows you how — and what to do if the cancel option isn't there.
Quick answer: open PhonePe → tap your profile picture → Payment Management → AutoPay → select the mandate → tap Delete (or Remove) → confirm with your UPI PIN. Future debits stop; payments already made are not refunded automatically.
How to cancel AutoPay in PhonePe
1. Open the PhonePe app and tap your profile picture (top left).
2. Scroll to Payment Management and tap AutoPay. In some versions this appears as “Autopay Settings”.
3. You will see all your active mandates. Tap the one you want to stop.
4. Tap Delete (some versions say Remove or Delete AutoPay).
5. Enter your UPI PIN to confirm.
6. The mandate's status changes to cancelled/revoked, and your bank usually sends an SMS confirming it.
How to pause AutoPay in PhonePe instead
Not sure you want to cancel? Open the same mandate and tap Pause. Deductions stop until you resume it — useful if you are travelling or want to skip a month without losing a subscription.
How to check which AutoPays are active in PhonePe
Go to Profile → Payment Management → AutoPay. Every active mandate shows the merchant name, the maximum amount it can debit and how often. If you see a name you don't recognise, don't ignore it — see the section on unfamiliar merchants below.
Cancel option missing or not working?
The mandate was set up in another UPI app. A mandate lives in the app you approved it in. If it isn't in PhonePe, check Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM or your bank's app — see how to cancel AutoPay in Google Pay and how to find all your active mandates.
A debit is already scheduled. You are notified about 24 hours before each debit. If the bank has already started processing it, that one payment may still go through — the next one won't.
It's a loan EMI or similar mandate. Some mandates can only be cancelled through the lender or merchant.
Update the app. Older versions of PhonePe use different menu names. Still stuck? You can also manage mandates from NPCI's official UPI Help portal (upihelp.npci.org.in) or contact PhonePe support from the Help section of the app.
What happens after you cancel
Future debits stop: the merchant can no longer charge you under that mandate. There is no automatic refund — money already debited stays with the merchant, so ask them directly if you were charged wrongly. And your subscription may still be active: cancelling the payment is not the same as cancelling the service, so also cancel inside the merchant's app or website.
Don't recognise the merchant?
AutoPay mandates often show a company's legal name instead of the brand you know — a streaming app may appear under its parent company's name. Search the name and check your email for a receipt. If it still looks unfamiliar, delete the mandate and report it to PhonePe. PhonePe warns that fake mandates often arrive through random SMS links or pop-ups disguised as “electricity bill pending” or “KYC update” requests; legitimate ones usually start inside the merchant's own app.
Forget which AutoPays you've approved? Saveiy keeps your subscriptions and UPI AutoPay mandates in one place and reminds you before they renew — so you can cancel before the money leaves.
Frequently asked questions
How do I stop AutoPay in PhonePe permanently?
Open Profile → Payment Management → AutoPay, select the mandate, tap Delete and confirm with your UPI PIN. Deleting stops all future debits under that mandate. Pausing only stops them temporarily.
Will I get my money back if I cancel AutoPay in PhonePe?
No. Cancelling only stops future payments. For money already debited, contact the merchant, or raise a dispute from the transaction in PhonePe if the charge was unauthorised.
Why can't I see my AutoPay in PhonePe?
It was probably set up in a different UPI app such as Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM or a bank app. Mandates only appear in the app you approved them in. NPCI's UPI Help portal can show mandates across apps.
What is the difference between pausing and deleting AutoPay?
Pause stops debits until you resume — the mandate stays. Delete revokes the mandate completely; to pay that merchant automatically again you would need to approve a new one.
Does deleting AutoPay cancel my subscription?
Not always. It stops payment, but the service may stay active until you also cancel it in the merchant's app or website.
