What to Look For in a Fixed Expense Tracker App
Not every 'expense tracker' handles fixed recurring costs well. Here are the five features that separate a real fixed expense tracker from a budgeting app.
Most expense-tracking apps are optimised for discretionary spend — coffee, food delivery, shopping. Fixed expenses (rent, EMIs, subscriptions, utilities) need a different set of features.
1. Recurring-charge detection. The app should auto-identify anything that debits on a schedule, without you tagging each transaction.
2. Renewal calendar. A timeline view of upcoming debits, not just historical categories.
3. Pre-debit alerts. Notifications 3–7 days before each charge, with a one-tap cancel link where possible.
4. Duplicate detection. Flags when you're paying for the same service twice (e.g. Hotstar direct + Hotstar bundled with Jio).
5. Read-only architecture. No stored bank credentials, no scraping — only billing signals you already receive.
Saveiy was built specifically for fixed expenses, not as a generalist budgeting app.
